I there a new Ad Sense program that I’m not aware of? Can we now have 18 ads in a row 1000 pixels long?
Doing some research about RSS, I did a search and ended up on an Ezine articles page, and immediately I noticed an incredibly long line of ad sense ads down the right side.
They weren’t just boxes, either, they yook up 1/3 of the page. I happened to be browsing in a small window, and my text was actually narrower than the ads!
Here’s an actual screenshot –
Wait, there’s more!
My resolution was only set to 1024 x 768, so I would actually have splice the photos together to show you all of them. Here’s the rest…
Google AdSense program policies allow you to place up to three ad units and three link units on any page, and it says so here and I can’t make it happen.
It seems to be mathematically impossible to come up with 18 ads, based on the product offerings. t’s also impossible to come up with that sort of length and width, or anything even close. I just logged into my own account and I don’t see this option for the 350 x 1000 pixel long display. Hmm…
I attempted to add multiple ad units (four 336 x 280) and simply got a failure to display the extras, and that would have only been 16 narrower ads, anyway. So what’s the story. Why is Ezine Articles special?
I can’t say I’m too disappointed, because it’s good for click throughs on Adsense, and I’ve been know to run a few ads now and then. Also, as a (very tiny) Google stockholder, it will make them more money, so that’s good.
However, I do think it’s too bad for advertisers, many of whom may not have even turned off the default appearance in the content network. A lot of people have joked for a long time.
Anyone know what’s going on with these?

If you’d provide the URL it might be easier to solve this mystery. But my first guess is that the page designer has added ads of his/her own that mimic Googles. My second guess is that there are in fact 2 blocks of ads, one after the other and they rendered incorrectly when you were viewing the page.
OMG, you’re right! I was just searching Wiki.com and I found several examples of skyscraper units with 9 or more ads in them. Try searching for “job search” at Wiki.com and you’ll see them.
Look at any long article on Ezinearticles.com – This particular one was a beginners guide to RSS article that I wrote a long time ago, and was trying to send someone to for reference.
