Do you even know what Google Notebook is? Even if you do know what it is, you probably aren’t using it very much, but you may want to start, because not only is it a handy tool, it might start to affect rankings.
According to this article by Bill Slawski, there may be a new Google ranking factor coming soon. It’s probably already on your computer, and if you’re like me, you rarely find yourself using it, although I did play with it extensively for about two weeks over the summer, while I was contemplating giving up Microsoft Office completely.
Google Notebook comes with your Google desktop application and rather than rehash what he has said, I’ll just tell you that you need to read this, if SEO is your niche.
The very first time I used it, I wondered to myself if this might not someday happen. In my opinion, just like social marketing, this is going to open up the door to networks of abusers too, but does not diminish its potential importance.
I guess what I really want to know is how long do you think it will be before they start using your Google toolbar bookmarked favorites too? 😉

Hi Scott,
Appreciate your thoughts on my post, and on how Google is collecting information while providing useful tools.
I’d guess that Google is paying attention to many of the other tools that they provide to people, and how those folks use the tools; from searches to personalize search to alerts to the toolbar, and many others.
I’d venture a guess that Google Toolbar bookmarked favorites may already be playing a role in what you see, especially if you are using personalized search.
I am not saying this isn’t going to happen, but when people who would normally be the early adapters of something like google notebook aren’t using it, it’s going to be awhile before it can be used for ranking with any meaning. Like you I played with it for a couple of weeks and haven’t been back since.
With google it is always a “we may or may not use x for search” and on this one it is likely to not be in use in any meaningful way for quite some time.
Yep, it’s likely going to be a while, if at all…
