Rionna will be speaking about Google Webmaster Central at Searchfest which will take place on March 10th, 2008 at the Portland Zoo. Purchase your Searchfest 08 tickets now.
1) Please give us your background and tell us what you do for a living?
I originally worked as an editor in book publishing but fell into tech when I became international editor for Microsoft’s mapping products, creating travel-related consumer content. From there I moved into technology and technical writing, spending almost ten years at Microsoft and MSN before doing a stint at Amazon and then joining Google. I’ve been here since April 2007, and work closely on the documentation for Google Webmaster Tools. I work with our developers, product managers, webmaster trends analysts and others to make sure we document new features and best practices. Our goal is to help webmasters understand our tools and use them to help them build better websites.
2) For the webmaster that tells you, “I’m already in Google, why should I signup for Webmaster Central”, how would you respond?
Because we’ll help you build a great website, and we’ll do it for free! Diagnostics, statistics, and tools let you troubleshoot problems, improve your content, and improve the crawlability and indexability of your site. And the Help Center has a ton of useful information for anyone looking for guidelines and advice on building Google-friendly sites.
3) Can you clue us into any future enhancements planned for Google Webmaster Central?
Cool stuff, stay tuned! We are always listening to users’ feedback to help create useful and friendly new tools that help improve their sites.
