2) How should a “traditional” press release be tweaked to make it more effective online?
A traditional press release should be “optimized” to make it more effective online i.e. key word research, then edit the release to include the key words. Use a wire service like Marketwire for best Internet distribution. Or go full out and do a social media press release where you can include other media such as video, audio, pix.
3) How can a PR firm successfully engage on social networks that typically frown upon traditional PR?
A PR firm can successfully engage on social networks in many ways. Firstly, work with the client to create an overall social media strategy. It is not a good practice to just jump in without a strategy and start a Facebook page or a blog or whatever. Then assist the client to execute the strategy through training and guidance. In the deployment many actions need to be done by the client not a PR firm.
